인도전통무술, ‘가트카(Gatkha)

시크교 전사가 8일 인도 찬디가르에서 열린 종교 행사에서 전통 무술 ‘가트카(Gatkha)’를 선보이고 있다. 이 행사는 시크교 창시자 구루 나낙 데브의 탄생일(11월 10일)을 기념하기 위해 열렸다. 인도에는 다양한 무술이 존재한다. 하지만 대부분 일반되었다고 보기엔 아직은 어렵다. 대부분 종교의례와 의식에서 그 모습을 찾아볼 수 있다. 다양한 무기를 사용하는 것이 특징적이다.

"Nihangs or Nihang Singhs, originally known as Akalis or Akali Nihangs, are endearingly designated the Guru's knights or the Guru's beloved, for the military ambience they still carry about them and the heroic style they continue to cultivate. They constitute a distinct order among the Sikhs and are readily recognised by their dark blue loose apparel and their ample, peaked turbans festooned with quoits, insignia of the Khalsa and rosaries, all made of steel. They are always armed, and are usually seen mounted heavily laden with weapons such as swords, daggers, spears, rifles, shot-guns and pistols."
