월남파병 태권도시범단 3대 단장, 최동희사범

월남태권도파견 3대 단장인 최동희사범은 누구인가? 그의 자료는 그의 제자들에 의해 수년전 기록되어 있었으나 지금은 삭제된 상태다. 그 당시 내용을 다시 정리해 본다.

최동희는 오하이오주 켄톤에 있던 태권도장 관장으로 45개의 지사의 3000여명의 수련생과 대략 600여명의 유단자로 구성된 무도원의 관장이었다. 그는 노병직사범의 제자였다. 도미하기전에 대한태권도협회이사, 한국전쟁당시에는 육군 보병부대장으로 근무하며 수많은 전투에서 활약하였으며 수훈을 세웠다. 그 후 한국정부의 공보실과 월남전에서는 코리아헤럴드 영자신문 특파원으로도 활약했다.

Dong Hi Choi(1931-1989), was owner of D.H. Choi's Tae Kwon do Academy in Canton, Ohio, and was Grandmaster of the Moo Do Won (Martial Arts Center), an organization with 45 branch studios, over 3000 students, and almost 600 black belts. He was a direct student of Byung Jick Ro. Before coming to the United States, Master D.H. Choi was also a Director of the Korean Tae Kwon Do Association, serving three terms from the period of the foundation of the organization. During the Korean War he served as a Major in the ROK Army, and as an Infantry troop leader, fought in numerous battles and earned more than his share of decorations and honors. Later he worked as a government Press Secretary for the South Korean Executive Branch; and was a correspondent for the Korea Herald Daily English newspaper during the Vietnamese conflict.
