What are the characteristics of an ideal Martial Art?

The purpose of self-defense is to protect yourself in the minimum amount of time using minimum effort and suffering minimum injury. Having said that, one may conclude that reflex, awareness and sense training is the basis of any effective martial art.

Ask yourself the question: "am I able to defend myself ?" Consider this now rather than whe...n you are already faced with an emergency situation.

What is Avci Wing Tsun (WT)?

WT is a weaponless form of self-defense. The systematic reflex and sense conditioning taught in Avci Wing Tsun helps the fastest and most effective techniques come out as automatic reflexes in a contact fight between two people. In WT, an attacker is countered in whichever way he/she chooses to attack.

What is Avci Escrima?

Escrima is an art from the Philippines in which a 60 cm Rattan stick is used. The concept of escrima can be applied to various everyday objects like an umbrella, briefcase, purse, belt or even a credit card if found necessary.

Is physical strength essential for self-defense?

Being strong is good. However, lack of strength can be compensated by learning effective technique and how to generate power from your body’s natural mechanisms in a dynamic and technical way.

Concept

WT is based on the cumulative experience of WT practitioners who have survived many dangerous situations. Reflex and sense training are the basis for being effective in any situation. This is why mostly techniques for this goal are taught, conditioning your muscle memory to perform under dangerous situations.

In a match, there are rules that provide fair-play and prevent serious injuries. This is good and important. But in reality there are no rules. That is the concept of AvciWingTsun, where when your fighting for life and limb, no rules need apply and proper use of body and environment becomes vital.

The 5 Fighting Ranges of combat in Avci Wing Tsun are:

1) Long Range (kicks)
2) Medium Range (punches)
3) Close Range (elbows, fore-arms and knees)
4) Standing-Grappling Range (clinch fighting, take-downs, throws, arresting, anti-grappling and opponent control techniques)
5) Ground Fighting Range (positioning, escapes and counters, submissions and 'ground and pound')

Nobody is born a master.

We learn to crawl before we start to walk, this applies to all things in life. Only continuous training and hard work can get you to your goal.
