The International Mounted Archery Challenge 2010

Rules for the International Mounted Archery Challenge 2010 USA, Bend, Oregon
All applications and entrance fees from the USA must be paid and turned in by September 1st. The
competition entrance fee is $200 USD. This is a first come fist serve basis; the first 15 people from the USA to have their applications and entrance fees turned in get to compete.
All competitors will have two days of practice (Thursday and Friday) on the competition course, so that they can get used to the courses and their competition horses.
We will be scoring with a new method in testing. Winners will be bases on the new method of scoring.
To score the participant, we take their points earned, and divide it by their speed, to get their hit factor.
We will be using computer software used for gun shooting competitions to log the competitor’s scores.
We will also be scoring the traditional method, so that we can compare the two methods for possible
future usage of the new method, and as a fall back in case something doesn’t work. In which case the timing for the courses is still limited; 18 seconds for the Hungarian, single shot, and double shot. With a 30 second limitation on the serial shot.
For the new scoring method, we will be taking the points earned, and dividing by the speed of the horse in seconds. This will give us the rider’s hit factor.

Events:
Single Shot
A one target run on a 90 meter course and you are timed from the starting line to the finish line. The
target is placed at the 45 meter mark. Targets are placed 7 meters away from the course, and are 1
meter in diameter.

Double Shot
A two target run on a 90 meter course and you are timed from the starting line to the finish line. Targets are placed 7 meters away from the course, and are 1 meter in diameter. The first target is placed 30 meters from the starting point, and is angled towards the start, making it a forward shot target. The Second target is placed about 20 meters after the first, and is angled away from the starting point, making it a back shot.

Serial Shot
A 5 target run on a 160 meter course and you are timed from the starting line to the finish line. Targets are placed 7 meters away from the course, and are 1 meter in diameter. The course will be in a U shape.
The first target is placed 30 meters from the starting point, and every target after is placed at 30 meter
intervals. All targets are side shots. If you hit all five targets, you are awarded a 5 point bonus. If you do not hit at least 3 targets, you are disqualified from that run.
Scoring on the Single, Double, and Serial targets are all the same. Arrows must be drawn from a quiver.

Hungarian
The Hungarian Style course is a 90 meter run divided by four posts in 30 meter segments. There are
three central targets at the 45 meter mark, and they are placed 7 meters away from the inside course
rope (to the left).The three targets are faced in three different directions creating forward, side, and
back shots. The competitors are allowed to shoot as many arrows as possible, usually shooting from arrows held in the hand.
Scoring of the three targets is according to the difficulty of the shot. Arrows can be drawn from the hand or from a quiver.

Team Mogu
One person pulls a Mogu ball on horseback, while two people follow and shoot blunted arrows to hit the ball. Players are allowed two arrows for this event. The course is 90 meters long. The ball chaser is allowed to shoot forward, side, and back, depending on where the ball is. Marks on the ball are scored by how many times, and how well you were able to hit it. An accurate shot making a large splat on the ball, is worth 5 points. A grazed hit with a small splat is worth 3 points. Then a slightly grazing shot with no definite ink splat is worth 1 point. Making no contact with the target is 0 points. The course has no time limit, but is timed in case there is a tie.
Arrows for the Mogu are held in the hand because of the blunted tips dipped in ink.

Grand Prix Shoot Off
A surprise competition for the top shooter from each event.

Day 1:

9:00am – warm up, and explanation of how the competition will be run.

9:30 – Opening ceremony

10:00 – Demo.

10:30 – Single shot competition.

11:30 – Demo

12:00 – Lunch break.

1:00 – Double shot competition.

2:00 – Demo

3:00 – Serial shot competition.

End competitions for day one.

5:30pm – Business meeting and dinner for participants and helpers.

Day 2:

9:00am – Warm up, and competition explanation.

9:30 – Hungarian competition.

11:30 – Lunch.

12:30 – Team Mogu.

2:00 – Demo

2:30 – Grand Prix Competition

3:00 – Closing ceremony.

End competitions for day 2.

6:00pm – Awards and group banquet.

• Horseback Archery marshals – people who are not competing that are educated in horse safety and are willing to direct horse traffic. I am hoping I can get some of my friends who are SCA equestrian Marshals to help with this.
